Rick has been involved in water polo as an athlete since 1980. He graduated from Santa Teresa High School in San Jose, CA in 1984 where he was a 3-sport athlete (Football, Water Polo, Swimming). He then played water polo and swam at West Valley Junior College in Saratoga, CA making the Dean’s List for both years. Rick went on to play water polo and swim at Fresno State University, where he earned the Scholar Athlete Award in 1988 and made the Dean’s List for 1988 – 1990.
Upon graduating from Fresno State, Rick furthered his playing career, playing for the Balmain Tigers Water Polo Club in Sydney, Australia 1990 – 1991. Rick won the Ted Newland award for Central California in 2010 and won the USA Water Polo Developmental Coach of the Year award for Central California in 2004. At age 57, Rick continues to play water polo every spring for the Central Valley Men’s Masters Team.
He left a hole in a hearts and a lot of work to distribute., Jim is best known for his amazing tournament videos, but.... Prior to leaving us he was coaching the FPU Sunbirds. Jim also coached Sunnyside High School from 1999 – 2017. Earlier in his career, Jim coached at Hoover and Bullard High Schools. In addition to his coaching experience, he has been a water polo official since 2009 and officiated the Sunbirds on a regular basis before his two children, Zachary and Hannah both started playing for the team. Jim has been a life-long water polo player, starting his playing career at Bullard High School in 1980. He continues to play and was last here with us playing for the Central Valley Water Polo Club. During his masters career he has competed in the National Championships over 22 years.
Jim Graduated from Fresno State University with a degree in Kinesiology. He taught Science at Sunnyside High School for most of his career but in 2014 started teaching Video Production.
Jim has been married to his wife Lisa since 1989. You will be very missed by your CVWP family.
Toledo's Mexican Restaraunt has been a strong partner with the CVWP Masters going on 30 years! Sam Toledo and the entire family have continued to serve up amazing meals at tournament socials. CVWP is an American Water Polo Club, membership is not required but can be obtained at the participants discretion.
